Best in Show Auctioned for Charity - complete with Green Roof
‘The Rain Chain’, Hadlow College with Westgate Joinery’s gold medal winning small sustainable garden that won ‘Best in Show’ in its category at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show was reassembled (in part) and will be auctioned in aid of Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres.
The design, by former Hadlow student Wendy Allen which illustrates a practical and attractive solution to the problem of excess rainfall run-off, featured a car port with a green roof and a timber-clad house wall that was reassembled by Westgate Joinery into an eco friendly summerhouse, complete with green roof.
Stephen Fell, MD of Lindum Turf whose Green Roof Mix turf, (a ready established combination of wildflowers, sedums, herbs and flowering perennials growing in recycled felt) said that this was the perfect outcome. “Thousands of visitors enjoyed the garden at the show and because of the auction, elements of the design will live on and be enjoyed by somebody else,” he commented. “The fact that it will raise money for a very good cause at the same time is an added bonus.”
Lindum also supplied their Low Maintenance turf (a slow and low growing turf that thrives in low fertility, drought prone situations) and Lindum Wildflower (a mix of 20 native wildflower species with non-aggresive meadow grasses, supplied in rolls to create an instant wildflower meadow) for the Silver-Gilt medal winning Southend-On-Sea Borough Council garden ‘Pastures Bye.’
